Description This is a coal-burning, standard-gauge, C-28 2-8-0 steam locomotive. It was built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1890 as Denver & Rio Grande Railroad # 583. The engine was redesignated # 683 in 1924. From 1947 to 1956, the locomotive was San Luis Valley Southern Railway # 106. It was acquired by the Colorado Railroad Museum (Golden, Colorado) in the early 1960s, where it is still on display. It has been restored to its 1930s-1940s condition.
