Summary
editDescriptionDeptmore Lock and Cottage, Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal - geograph.org.uk - 599327.jpg |
English: Deptmore Lock and Cottage, Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal. Three very large cypress trees growing next to the lock were felled in the early 1990s. I heard that the roots were in danger of damaging the lock chamber brick walls. The stumps were levelled to the ground but are still detectable. The trees as they were in 1984 can be seen here 37261
The lock cottage has no road, track or footpath in to it. (See the satellite facility with Googlemap). A small boat moored below the lock takes the residents to civilization at Radford Bridge nearly a mile to the north. Mind you, when the bar maid says to you when you order your pint of real ale , "flat or fizzy?" you wonder if civilization is the right word. Mmmm! Times may have changed now. Update November 2009. Times have changed. The cottage is now (sadly) unoccupied, and may be for sale soon. The pub/restaurant/carvery at Radford Bridge serves good meals at attractive prices and the real ale (choice of four) is about 20% cheaper than elsewhere. |
