Short title | Radiant Heat |
---|---|
Image title | Victoria is one of the most bushfire-prone parts of the world. Every summer, bushfires threaten properties and lives, but it's not the flames that kill most bushfire victims. It’s the radiant heat.
Radiant heat can cause burns from 100 metres away and cause the rapid onset of heatstroke which under these conditions can kill very quickly. This short animation explains radiant heat in simple terms and will provide information to help you survive. Most importantly, the best defence against radiant heat is a simple one: If you're not anywhere near a bushfire, its radiant heat can't hurt you. Leaving early, before a fire starts, is always your safest option. |
