English: In the most recent Wikipedia Portal A/B test, we added descriptions to the other Wikimedia projects at the bottom of wikipedia.org to raise awareness of those projects and help the Portal visitor make an informed decision before clicking on one of those links.
We ran the test for 7 days between 3 May 2016 and 10 May 2016 and recorded 22.4K visits to the Portal by 17.5K unique sessions enrolled into the A/B test. 45 visits resulted in a click on a link to one of the sister projects, which is consistent with the 0.2-0.4% clickthrough rate we observe on the Wikipedia Portal dashboard. A Bayesian analysis showed that the test group was slightly more likely than the control group to visit the other projects, but these results are unreliable due to the small amount of data available. In other words: the best case scenario is that the change is actually positive, and the worst case scenario is that the change isn't negative or at least inconclusive. On 18 May 2016, we deployed the change to production (see T133732) and as of 19 May 2016, this is the default experience for anyone visiting wikipedia.org. |
