1909 ad for an electric car from a playbill

Summary edit

Description
English: The ad depicts the lead actress in the play Polly of the Circus getting out of an electric car in front of the Moore Theater in Seattle, Washington. The ad is for the local Broadway Automobile Company dealership. This could be actress Mabel Taliaferro since it is her publicity still used in conjunction with the Moore Theater Aug. 15, 1909 opening.File:A scene from "Polly of the Circus" (SAYRE 12078).jpg

Previously a carriage and buggy company, the Anderson Electric Car Company began producing electric automobiles in 1907. Sales remained steady due to high gasoline prices during World War I, but improved internal combustion engine automobiles eventually forced the company out of business by 1939. Electric cars were supposedly preferred by women because they did not emit exhaust fumes and they did not require cranking.
