English: Illustrations from an edition of Deutsche Uniformen ("German uniforms") printed in the 1930s, after 1938, a booklet with colour plates and charts of military and paramilitary uniforms and insignia of Nazi Germany, published by Verlag Moritz Ruhl in Leipzig:
  • Plate 21 – Uniform and Rank insignia of the RLB (German: Uniform und Dienstgradabzeichen des RLB )
    • Shoulder boards/straps (Achselstücke/Schulterklappen)
    • Collar tabs/gorget patches (Kragenpatten/Kragenspiegel)
    • National emblem (Hoheitszeichen)
etc.
The Reichsluftschutzbund (RLB) (National Air Raid Protection League) was an organization in Nazi Germany in charge of air raid precautions in residential areas and among smaller businesses.
See Reichsluftschutzbund Uniformen (www.wwiidaybyday.com) and State Organizations Collar Tab and Shoulder Board Identification Guide: Reichsluftschutzbund (www.germandaggers.com): Collar tabs and shoulder boards identified rank for officers. NCO and enlisted wore the same shoulder strap.
The final pattern of Nazi Party ranks was put into effect in mid-1939. The new insignia pattern was a vast overhaul of previous designs beginning with a standardized set of twenty eight Nazi Party ranks that were to be uniform across all levels of the Party. To denote membership in a particular "level" of the Nazi Party (local, county, regional, or national) collar tabs would display a particular color on which the actual rank insignia would then be displayed. (For photos, see NSDAP Collar Tab and Shoulder Board Identification Guide at GermanDaggers.com.)
  • Base colours of collar tabs/gorget patches (Grundfarben der Spiegel, rank tab colours indicating administrative level):
    • Local party level for German towns and cities (Ortsgruppe) – light brown
    • District party level for German counties (Kreisleitung) – dark brown
    • Regional party level for German states and their provinces (Gauleitung) – light red
    • National party level for the German nation (Reichsleitung) – crimson
  • Piping (coloured trim) on collars, caps, collar patches and armbands (Kragen-, Mützen-, Spiegel- und Armbindenpaspel, similiar to Waffenfarbe, "corps colour"):
    • Local party level (Ortsgruppe) – light blue
    • District party level (Kreisleitung) – white (originally black)
    • Regional party level (Gauleitung) – dark red
    • National party level (Reichsleitung) – golden (bright lemon yellow)
