Description

Seen here is a model-based reconstruction of life on an ancient forest floor during the Pennsylvanian Period - the "Age of Coal Swamps". This is a public exhibit at the Cincinnati Museum of Natural History & Science in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The tree trunk is Lepidodendron, a large lycopod, also called a scale tree. The flying arthropod in the background represents Stenodictya, a palaeodictyopteran insect.
