Description

Diplodocus carnegii Hatcher, 1901 sauropod dinosaur from the Jurassic of Wyoming, USA (public display, holotype specimen - CM 84 & CM 94 & CM 307, Carnegie Museum of Natural History, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA).

This is the holotype specimen of the sauropod dinosaur Diplodocus carnegii. The mounted skeleton consists of 3 partial skeletons found at the same site. Diplodocus bones were found in greenish-gray calcareous mudshales (mudrocks; siliclclastic mudstones) representing an ephemeral freshwater lake deposit.
