Summary
editDescriptionDisused arm, Oxford Canal - geograph.org.uk - 556895.jpg |
English: Disused arm of the Oxford Canal in Warwickshire. The Oxford Canal was built as a contour canal with a very winding line. This was later straightened by the construction of cuttings where necessary, as here near Newbold-on-Avon. This left many disused arms and loops, some of which still hold water in places. Exploring this loop, I came first to a derelict boat which proved, however, to be inhabited, as an hirsute individual, distinguishable only with difficulty from something normally kept in a zoo, emerged, brandishing a frying pan in an aggressive manner. Discretion being the greater part of valour, I beat a quick retreat to the comparative safety of the main line towpath. |
