Description
English: Disused in preservation When the Midland Railway Centre was first opened, part of their present line was still in use by the Butterley Company for the transport within various parts of the works of large objects such as bridge girders and for their dispatch via British Rail. When the company finally gave up using rail transport, the Midland Railway Centre took over some of the tracks, such as these here adjacent to the Coach Road level crossing. Though they appear disused and abandoned, close examination of the photograph will show a dark red rectangle in the distance along the left-hand siding. This was an ex-BR Class 08 shunting locomotive, No 08590, that was using the siding for driver-training practice.
