English: Disused watercress bed View from Spring Hide. Just to the left of this photo you can often see the springs bubbling to the surface. In winter, when the springs are active, the pond does not ice over. This is very important for birds such as kingfishers and water rails. The springs are located within the compacted Melbourn rock. The aquifer supplying the springs at Fowlmere has in the past provided water for Cambridge, Royston and surrounding villages. |
