Summary edit
DescriptionDoncaster St Jamess Bridge and Cherry Tree railway stations (site), Yorkshire (geograph 6625043).jpg |
English: Doncaster St James's Bridge and Cherry Tree railway stations (site), Yorkshire On the far right of the image, behind the white van was Doncaster Cherry Tree station. Opened in 1849 by the South Yorkshire Railway as the terminus of its line from Swinton, this station closed to passengers in 1852 when trains were extended to the current Doncaster station. The site remained open as a goods station into the 1960s. The green area in the centre of the image is the site of the later St. James's Bridge excursion platforms (spelling as shown on the 1930 and 1937 OS maps). Opened in 1899 by the Great Central Railway, this was used for passengers to and from the St. Leger race meetings, until around 1955. View south west towards Conisbrough and Swinton, with the East Coast Main Line to London Kings Cross on the far left. |
