English: Village street, donkey carts, people in foreground, modern small church in middleground. Thanks to [/photos/8468254@N02/ derangedlemur] we know that this is Castleconnell Co. Limerick. [/photos/swordscookie/ swordscookie] aka Sean Mulligan tells us a few stories about his family who lived near here. "I was looking at this and never realised where it was until the Lemur (who else?) identified it! My antecedents came from there and indeed were connected (as servants) with the deBurgho's who are mentioned above! One of the girls in my grandmothers family ran off with a relative of that family and they eloped to Australia where their descendants are living today! We keep in touch and they have been over a couple of times! One of my fathers uncles helped found the rowing club in Castleconnell back in the 1880's and today my nephew and his daughters are involved as coach and crew! The granduncle was drowned when crossing from the quay in Limerick to a ship, a fact which was mentioned in a shot Carol put up of a steamer berthed in the city! |
