Description

A U.S. Navy Douglas A-1J Skyraider from Attack Squadron 95 (VA-95) "Green Lizards" takes off from the aircraft carrier USS Ranger (CVA-61). VA-95 was assigned to Carrier Air Wing 9 (CVW-9) aboard the Ranger for a deployment to Vietnam from 5 August 1964 tp 6 May 1965.

142048 was later transferred to the U.S. Air Force as 52-142048. It served with the 602nd Air Commando Squadron, 56th Air Commando Wing, and was shot down by anti-aircraft artillery 50 km west of the A Shau Valley, South Vietnam in Savannakhet Province, Laos, on 25 April 1968. The pilot bailed out and was rescued.
