Description
English: Road construction by sweat and muscle.

Picks, crowbars and a lot of navvies were needed for road construction. Labour saving devices were almost unknown, but the keg on the right of the photo in the middle distance may have been filled with gunpowder for blasting. The horses were harnessed to tip drays, the precursor of the tip truck.

Queensland Museum holds over 1000 of Bert Roberts' plate glass negatives and prints from the era.
