Description

Der erste Bau wurde zwischen 1838 und 1841 von Gottfried Semper im Stil der italienischen Frührenaissance als königliches Hoftheater geschaffen. 1869 brannte er völlig nieder. Der Nachfolgebau wurde ebenfalls von Gottfried Semper entworfen, aber von seinem älteren Sohn Manfred gebaut, da Gottfried Semper die Einreise nach Sachsen aus politischen Gründen untersagt war. Fertiggestellt wurde die Semperoper dann 1879. Während der verheerenden Bombenangriffe auf Dresden in der Nacht des 13. Februars 1945 wurde das Gebäude getroffen und zerstört. Der Wiederaufbau begann mit der Grundsteinlegung im Juni 1977.

Am 13. Februar 1985, dem 40. Jahrestag der Zerstörung wurde die Semperoper, dann wieder mit der Oper 'Der Freischütz' von Carl Maria Weber neu eröffnet.
