Summary edit

Description

Dresden Hbf., Saxony, 6 October, 2021. Constructed in 1892-98 by the Royal Saxon State Railways to replace several other stations built by private companies, the station has a highly unusual layout of a terminus on a low level below two through island sets of platforms on viaducts each side. The architects were Arwed Rossbach, Ernst Giese and Paul Weidner and it was built in the style of Historicism.

It was severely damaged in WWII and only partially restored post-war. The station was further badly damaged by floods in 2002. It was then reconstructed/restored by Norman Foster, the re-opening taking place in 2006 although the renovations were not actually completed until 2014.

Pictured is the Konigspavillion (Royal Pavilion), built for use by, and to receive state guests for, the Kings of Saxony. It is in Baroque Revival style. It is now a secondary entrance on the central part of the northern frontage.
