English: Portrait of Landgravine Augusta Wilhelmina of Hesse-Darmstadt (1765-1796), wife of Maximilian I Joseph of Bavaria (1756-1825)
Deutsch: "Auguste Wilhelmine Marie von Hessen-Darmstadt wurde durch Ihre Heirat mit dem Pfalzgrafen Maximilian Joseph im Jahr 1785 zunächst Herrin der Grafschaft Rappoldstein mit dem Zentrum Rappoltsweiler (Ribeauvillé). 1786 kam Prinz Ludwig, der spätere Kronprinz und König von Bayern zur Welt. Das Ehepaar lebte vornehmlich in Straßburg musste aufgrund der französischen Revolution jedoch nach Mannheim fliehen. 1796 starb sie als Herzogin des besetzten Herzogtums Pfalz-Zweibrücken an Lungentuberkolose im Schloss Rohrbach. Ein sehr ähnliches Pastell-Porträt von Dryander aus dem Jahr der Hochzeit (1785) des Paares befindet sich im Schlossmuseum Darmstadt. Dort wird auch ein Pendant mit der Darstellung von Max Joseph aufbewahrt (siehe Weber 1987)." |
