Summary
editDescriptionDukedog class 9004 at Wellington station, 1960 (geograph 6430860).jpg |
English: 'Dukedog' class 9004 at Wellington station, 1960 The tarpaulin over the chimney shows that this locomotive was already considered redundant. With outside frames, the locomotives looked very antiquated; the class originated in the 1930s, but was constructed from elements of earlier locomotives. The key was that they were a reasonably powerful locomotive, suited to passenger work, but nevertheless light enough to be able to work across the wooden bridge at Barmouth. Their operation was consequently largely confined to mid- and north-Wales. |
