Description |
English: "The woman presented in the portrait, with a royal crown on her head, was initially identified as Mary de Medici; however, it has been recently determined that more probably, this is Anne of Austria (1601–1666), Spanish Infanta, daughter of Philip III Habsburg, King of Spain and Portugal, and, from 1615, the wife of King Louis XIII of France. The Krakow painting was probably made by a painter working in the circle of the French artist Daniel Dumonstier (1574–1646), possibly the same one who is the author of the "Portrait of a Young Woman in a Hat with a Feather" (cf. Sotheby's auction, London, 29/10/2009, no. 7). The painting may constitute a reproduction of an original unknown to us, also made by Dumonstier in the 1620s.
