Summary edit

Description Dún Laoghaire was built mainly in the 1800s and has a distinct architectural style. Its excellent seaside location encouraged many wealthy Dubliners to make it their home. During this period a large number of fine terraces and villas were built. The strong English associations of the town (once called Kingstown) are reflected in many of the shops on the route. Two factors that really made the town prosperous were the coming of the railway and the building of the harbour.
