Notes |
The so-called Wittenberger Heiligthumsbuch is a catalogue of Frederick the Wise's relic collection, it was printed by Reinhart possibly in collaboration with the workshop of Johann Rhau-Grunenberg. Two editions are known (a third one was probably planned, but never completed); the first edition was published in 1509 with 108 woodcuts. There are various single woodcuts from the Heiligthumsbuch in the BM collection. For another impression of the engraved double-portrait, see BM 1850-8-10-525. For another copy of the Heiligthumsbuch, see BM 1949-4-11-4991 (location 159.c.54 (1)) For later use of two blocks with the apostles Paul and Peter (from 'Der sechste Gang', XIII and XVI) as bookplates used in Orngau, see I. O'Dell, 'Deutsche und Oesterreiche Exlibris 1500-1599, London, 2003, no.279a, 279b. A 1618 edition reusing some of Cranach's blocks is kept at 159.d.26 (1972,U.486). A related text, "Levita Catholicvs Contra Exodum Pseud-euangelicam", 1589, (see chapters 31 and 32) is kept at 159.d.28 (Paisey 2002, 294). Additional lit:. J. Strehle and A. editThis image is in the public domain because it is a mere mechanical scan or photocopy of a public domain original, or – from the available evidence – is so similar to such a scan or photocopy that no copyright protection can be expected to arise. The original itself is in the public domain for the following reason:
This tag is designed for use where there may be a need to assert that any enhancements (eg brightness, contrast, colour-matching, sharpening) are in themselves insufficiently creative to generate a new copyright. It can be used where it is unknown whether any enhancements have been made, as well as when the enhancements are clear but insufficient. For known raw unenhanced scans you can use an appropriate {{PD-old}} tag instead. For usage, see Commons:When to use the PD-scan tag. ![]() |
