Description Woodwardia fimbriata—giant chain fern. The largest North American fern. Confined largely to the California Floristic Province although there are disjunct populations in all bordering states as well as Washington and British Columbia. Usually found in wet places and in the understory of redwood forests. Photographed at Regional Parks Botanic Garden located in Tilden Regional Park near Berkeley, CA.
