| Inscription | Vor dieser Linde saß sie jüngst wie einst, das Vollbrachte freudig überdenkend (aus: Friedrich von Schiller, Wilhelm Tell) DIE SCHILLERLINDE Am 9. Mai 1905 jährte sich der 100 Todestag Friedrich von Schillers (1759-1805) und in ganz Deutschland wurden Feiern zu Ehren des Dichters abgehalten. So auch in Eisenach und seinerzeit zogen etwa 6000 Schüler und Lehrer aller Eisenacher Bildungseinrichtungen ins Mariental und pflanzten eine Linde. Sie ist ein Symbol des durch Friedrich von Schiller in seinen Werken propagierten Freiheitsgedankens und des Gedenkens der nationalen Einheit. |
