English: BUILT BY JULIE SMITH IN GREEK REVIVAL STYLE CIRCA 1835 BUT SUBSTANTIALLY ENLARGED. ESPERANZA MEANING HOPE BECAME A MECCA FOR LITERARY AND ARTISTIC PERSONS INCLUDING NATHANIEL HAWTHORNE, WILLIAM GILLETTE (THE ACTOR) AND GEORGE INNESS, THE ARTIST.

REF. # 02000334 THERE IS CURRENTLY A PICTURE ON THE NR LIST BUT THE HOUSE IS SO FAR AWAY AS TO BE VIRTUALLY INVISIBLE. I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO CHAT WITH MEMBERS OF THE FAMILY WHO ALERTED ME TO THE USE OF THE HOUSE IS TIMES PAST AS A MECCA FOR LITERARY AND ARTISTIC FIGURES.
