Description |
English: In February 1898, a group of Seattle Theater owners met to discuss business and ended up founding a new organization - the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Like many other fraternal organizations, the group provided members with medical and funeral benefits, before these became widely available. This early Eagles Hall was located on the southwest corner of 7th and Pine. Designed by James Blackwell and Robert L. Robertson, it was completed in April 1904. The much grander Eagles Temple was constructed in 1923 at 7th and Union and this building would be razed in 1930 for the Roosevelt Hotel. Signs in image: Eagles Hall. Washington Ladies' Hat Mf'g Co. We Clean Press and Remodel Ladies Felt and Straw Hats. Office [...] F.O.E. Handwritten on sleeve: Eagles Hall Ext.
