This photo was taken on Aug. 22, 2011, the day before a 5.8 earthquake damaged the Dickinson Building at Germanna Community College's Fredericksburg Area Campus. It will reopen for classes in January 2013. The quake's epicenter was located in the Mineral area. It was felt hundreds of miles away. Classes were relocated--some moved online-- and resumed a week-and-a-half later. "I am very proud of Germanna’s faculty and staff, our students, and our communities," said GCC President David A, Sam.."How many organizations could lose the use of 1/3 of their facilities, redesign how they do what they do, open up 10 days later, and grow their business (enrollment went up last fall by 3.9 percent)? That’s what our people did." |
