| Description |
(5 September 2006) The rocks here are Precambrian meta-anorthosites of the Marcy Anorthosite (Mesoproterozoic, ~1155-1161 Ma). Anorthosite is a coarsely-crystalline, intrusive igneous rock exclusively or dominantly consisting of plagioclase feldspar. Metamorphism has occurred in this region, but it has not changed the plagioclase content. Quite a few mafic dikes intrude the meta-anorthosites here. Locality: town of Jay, northern Essex County, northeastern Adirondack Mountains, northeastern New York State, USA (44° 22' 22.19" North, 73° 43' 34.42" West) |
