Title |
English: East side of Lake Union with steamer in background, Seattle, ca. 1888 |

Description |
English: James D. Lowman moved to Seattle in the late 1870s and established a career as a businessman, becoming owner of the Lowman and Hanford Company. The Lowmans, like many other families, took photos of their surroundings and activities and kept them pasted in albums. These well preserved images record some of Seattle's early scenery, such as this view across Lake Union. The small passenger steamer in the background is probably the Maud Foster, which brought people to the north side of the lake.
