| Description |
English: Eastry Court and St Mary's Church (both Grade I listed) in the village of Eastry in Kent, England, c.1900-10. The Court (dating to the 16th century) at this time was physically attached to its farm from where the photo was taken. Since then the wall running right from the corner of the house and which enclosed the ornamental front garden, was moved forward towards the camera, fully enclosing the Court and providing a side drive to the back of house. The walled-off land this side was later used for new business, new build, and a new access road (running left to right this side of the new wall), the pond being filled in. The camera point and that to the left is, according to old maps, the site of the old palace of the Kentish Anglo-Saxon kings. Time Team investigated this and the wider village area for major Anglo Saxon settlement: "Time Team S13-E06". Today (2018) Eastry Court is home to Lord Freud, the great-grandson to psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud. |
