Description
English: Edgar's Field, Handbridge. The entrance from Greenway Street to the park called Edgar's Fields. The 10th century King Edgar, known as 'The Peacemaker', is supposed to have had his palace nearby. Stone bases and iron fittings suggest that there were once large iron gates between the gateposts. For a close up of the distinctive sandstone rock strata see 497885. The tall iron post sticking out of the bushes may be a sewer vent pipe similar to 345482 in nearby Curzon Park.
