Photos from the successful Sept 9, 2015 Edmunds Co. Cover Crop Field Day IPSWICH, September 10, 2015 – About 75 agricultural producers attended a cover crop field day on September 9 hosted by the SD Soil Health Coalition, Edmunds County Conservation District, and Ipswich Natural Resources Conservation Service. The field day demonstrated 4 plots focusing on mixtures targeting salinity, high carbon, grazing, and high nitrogen. Dan Forgey, Agronomy Manager of Cronin Farms in Gettysburg, SD, was the keynote speaker. He and Cronin Farms have been planting cover crops since 2006 focusing on diverse cocktail mixes that help catch and store nutrients for the corn crop, stop erosion, smother weeds, preserve soil moisture and supplement grazing. In addition, the soil pit and rainfall simulator demonstrations were well received. Contact the Ipswich NRCS office at 605-426-6951 ex3 to RSVP or for more information.
