Summary edit

Description

The current batch comprises two statuettes displayed side by side in a glass case at the Lady Lever. I've previously posted some photos of the big Folly (90 cm or about half-scale) that was displayed at the Tate Britain for about five minutes in 2010 (<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/65986072@N00/5177999579/">E.G. here</a>). The version in the LL is about 50 cm.

Slightly bigger is Fate, one of Ford's last works. As you'll see from the date it was exhibited posthumously. As Emerson, Lake & Palmer fans will doubtless be aware, the three fates were Clotho, who wove the threads of every mortal's life; Lachesis, who measured the threads; and finally Atropos, depicted here, who dispassionately cut each thread to its appointed length. Somewhat chillingly appropriate for a posthumous work. For some reason Atropos appears to be cutting the thread with a pair of sheep shears. There's also an accidentally appropriate aspect to the statuette, in that the thread is represented by a twisted wire, which looks horribly like barbed wire...
