L'église aurait été construite entre le XIIe et le XVIIIe siècle. On trouve mention de cette église dans une bulle papale de 1151 (Calixte II). L'église Saint-Pierre relevait du monastère de Vouillon qui dépendait de l'abbaye bénédictine de Déols. Le chevet est à trois absides, l'abside principale et deux absidioles attachées au transept. L'abside principale et les deux absidioles sont reliées par un mur arrondi qui seraient les vestiges d'absides en prolongement d'une nef à trois vaisseaux. La nef actuelle étant unique. L'édifice primitif ayant ainsi pu comporter une nef à trois vaisseaux, sans transept, avec trois absides en prolongement des trois vaisseaux. L'église possède des stalles sculptées des armes des familles de La Trémoille, de Bourbon-Roussillon et de Chabannes. Ces stalles viennent du couvent des Minimes qui existait autrefois à Bommiers, près du château dont il reste des ruines (Eglise fermée). L'architecte Dauvergne a refait à neuf le portail occidental et les fenêtres de la nef au XIXe siècle. |
