Material: Ebonized Wood Date: c. 1875 Egyptian motifs, such as obelisks and hieroglyphs, were very popular in American decorative arts of the 1870s as people looked to other cultures for artistic inspiration. Almost every Victorian home contained a piece of Egyptian Revival furniture. This table is James and Lucretia Garfield's nod to the exotic movement.
