Description |
"Election day in New York" according to the Illustrated London News, Dec. 3, 1864. Shows the presidential election of 1864 (Lincoln vs. McClellan) in two neighborhoods of New York City: one (wealthy) among the "upper ten", the other (poorer) among the "lower twenty". In the upper-class district, men in top-hats are standing in groups outside "Bradley & Co Livery Stables". In the lower-class district, people (including women, absent in the upper-class scene) rush around outside "P. Delaney - Bonded Liquors" and H. von Gluck's cobbler shop.
