Description
English: The Elias A. Miller House, 825 Elmwood Avenue at Lancaster Avenue, Buffalo, New York, August 2021. Two-and-a-half stories in height and of wood-frame construction, this interesting 1892-vintage residence is an odd iteration of the Queen Anne style where, first of all, the requisite façadal asymmetry looks at first blush to be absent: only upon closer examination does one notice that the front entrance is offset within the balustraded front porch, for instance, or the small rectangular leaded-glass window tucked away inconspicuously to the left. Much more prominent is the tall arched window set within the central dormer on the second floor of the façade, flanked consecutively with stylized pilaster strips and a pair of hexagonal bay windows. The steeply-pitched hipped roof is also an unusual choice. The house belonged to Elias A. Miller (1835-1914), a Civil War veteran-turned-clerk with the Union Steamboat Company who resided there until his death.
