  • Significance: Elizabeth Cady Stantion was an effective proponent of women's rights for over half a century. She was influential in organizing a Women's Rights Convention in Seneca Falls in 1848, which is widely viewed as the beginning of the modern feminist movement. Having written the Declaration of Sentiments for the convention, she continued to be one of the Women's Rights Movement's most dynamic orators and philosophers, recognizing the need for women's suffrage from the beginning...
