Description
English: This was one of Saint-Gaudens works that Elsie completed after his death. In a picture, Elsie is in her chambray gown at work on the Seated Lincoln. It dwarfs Miss Ward who was not quite five feet tall. As an assistant in the studio of Augustus Saint-Gaudens, Elsie Hering helped finish much of the sculptures done toward the end of his life. After his death in 1907, she completed this commission whic was praised as an "astonishingly beautiful and poetic result filled with the spirit of his life."
