The barque Ceres was built in 1867 by Th. J. Petersen of Troense for A.C. Thurøe, also of Troense. In 1874 she was bought by Den Kongelige Grønlandske Handel (Royal Greenland Trading) and then travelled between Denmark and Greenland 77 times until 1926. Taken over by the Danish Ministry of the Navy in 1929 with plans for use as a school ship. These plans did not materialize and in 1931 she was sold for scrap to a company in Sweden.
