Description
Deutsch: Markgrafenschloss in Emmendingen. Das heutige Schloss war ursprünglich ein Wirtschaftshof des Klosters Tennenbach. Nach mehreren Besitzerwechseln erwarb der Markgraf Jacob III. von Baden-Hachberg 1588 den Wirtschaftshof und baute sich das Areal zu seiner Residenz in Emmendingen aus. 1584 heiratete der 22-jährige badische Markgraf Jakob III. die 16-jährige Reichsgräfin Elisabeth von Pallandt-Culemborg. Sie war Alleinerbin eines sehr großen Vermögens. In der nur sechs Jahre dauernden, glücklichen Ehe wurden vier Kinder geboren. 1588 zog das Paar von der Hochburg (Emmendingen) in die kleine Emmendinger Residenz. Am 1. Januar 1590 verlieh Jakob III. dem bisherigen Marktflecken Emmendingen die Stadtrechte. Das Schloss und neue Gebäude entstanden im damals vorherrschenden Baustil. Nachdem Jacob III. am 15. Juli 1590 zum katholischen Glauben übergetreten war, fiel er mit großer Wahrscheinlichkeit einem Giftanschlag zum Opfer und starb am 17. August im Markgrafenschloss. Nach Jacobs Tod blieb das das Schloss Sitz der markgräflichen Land- und Burgvögte.
