Description

Was located between 283 and 287 Essex Street across from the YMCA, which now houses the Crombie Street parking lot and a more recent residential building. This postcard has a postmark from Salem on the back dated January 16th, 1pm, and possibly 1918 but it is a weak stamp.

Opened around 1907 by Julius Cahn, the Empire Theater in Salem was used for vaudeville, dance presentations, and some movies before closing. It was demolished around 1957.
