Summary edit

Description Stone carving by Mawer and Ingle on the exterior of Endcliffe Hall, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. The building was designed by Flockton and Abbot for Sir John Brown (1816-1896), and erected 1863-1865. Showing Aphrodite (or Venus) in a panel below the tower. Unfortunately an overflow pipe pierces the frame. Aphrodite was married to Hephaestus (featured in the adjacent panel) but bore him no children - a parallel to Mary the wife of John Brown, who had no children.
