Description
English: Engel Statement on Russia's Election Interference

Dec 10, 2016 Press Release

WASHINGTON—Representative Eliot L. Engel, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, today made the following statement:

"The mounting evidence of Russia's interference in our election reaffirms what the Director of National Intelligence has said, and I welcome the President's order to get to the bottom of this situation. Congressional leadership and committees with jurisdiction over national-security issues should also commit to a thorough investigation of Russia's attempt to subvert our democracy. This isn't about party or politics. We need to understand what happened and determine how to respond.

"Especially in light of new reports that Russia aimed to aid his campaign, it's outrageous that the President-elect continues to impugn the credibility of our intelligence community by accusing them of political bias on this matter. Rather than attacking our intelligence officials, he should be getting briefings from them every day, as has been standard in the past."
