English: As seen in April 2020: the Engine No. 38, Hook & Ladder No. 13 firehouse stands proudly at the southwest corner of Colvin and Linden Avenues in Buffalo, New York. Built in 1926 to a design by city architect Howard Beck, the aesthetic of its style is described in its NYS Division of Historic Preservation inventory form as a combination of the then-popular "stripped Classiciam and Spanish mission elements" that "was popular throughout the Midwest in the '20s and '30s and gave rise to the appellation 'Kansas City Spanish'." The building was designed to do double duty as home to Police Station No. 17 (occupying the portion of the building at left from the perspective of this photo); it no longer functions as a police station but does remain in use as a fire hall. |
