Description
Español: Este Monumento Histórico se ubica en el costado norte de la plaza principal de Rancagua y fue construido a fines del siglo XVIII por la orden mercedaria. Su estructura es de adobe y su techumbre tiene tejas de arcilla. Destaca por su belleza arquitectónica, pero también por su protagonismo durante los primeros días de octubre de 1814, cuando sirvió como refugio para O’Higgins y su ejército, luego del desastre de Rancagua. Actualmente sólo queda la cara SO (donde se encuentra ubicada la Iglesia) debido a que el 2007 parte de esta Zona Típica fue demolida sin autorización del Consejo de Monumentos Nacionales, además de que el año 2010, luego del terremoto, parte de la estructura se derrumbó.
