Description
English: Entrance to Church Farm Rare Breeds Centre. The village of Stow Bardolph is situated a couple of miles north-east of Downham Market, just to the east of the busy A10 road. The houses and cottages > 1737278 are grouped around the site of Stow Hall which was built by Nicholas Hare, Master of the Rolls and Keeper of the Great Seal in 1589. In 1624 John Hare constructed the Hare Chapel > 1737312 - a large addition to the church of Holy Trinity > 1737301 which serves as a mausoleum for members of the Hare family and contains a number of quite extraordinary monuments > 1737351 including the only funerary effigy of its kind outside of Westminster Abbey > 1737355. The Hare family have played an important role in the village's history and in 1622 Sir Ralph Hare built six almshouses > 1737283 and provided them with 86 acres of land. The church of the Holy Trinity is situated in a cul-de-sac, flanked by the old rectory which presently houses Downham Preparatory School and Montessori Nursery > 1737274. Church Farm Rare Breeds Centre > 1737266 is a little further down the lane towards where the road ends, bisected by the A10 road.
