Description
English: Halftone, Divided back, Agra Series, 13.85 x 8.80 cm. [Original caption] Entrance to the Taj, Agra. - This superb gateway of red sandstone was built in 1648 A.D. and it is a worthy pendant to the Taj itself. It is inlaid with ornamentation and inscriptions from the Koran in white marble, and is surrounded by 26 white marble cupolas. Inside the gate are the beautiful Taj Gardens, which lead to the magnificent sepulchre of the Emperor Shah Jahan and his well-beloved "Pride of the Palace." [end]
