Summary
editDescriptionEppleworth Viaduct - geograph.org.uk - 644480.jpg |
English: Eppleworth Viaduct, Skidby, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. Beware of Ents, Triffids, and anything which sings out "Feed me, Seymour!" in a voice sounding suspiciously like Levi Stubbs of The Four Tops. To the left of the 'heavy plant crossing' sign, the clump of trees hides the end of the railway embankment where the Hull & Barnsley Railway once crossed Westfield Road by means of a five arched viaduct. The Hull & Barnsley Railway opened in 1885 but was closed gradually between 1932 and 1964, except for a short section in the city of Hull and another section at Drax which was reopened in 1970 to supply coal to the power station. Eppleworth Viaduct was demolished using explosives in 1977 and part of the dismantled line is now used as an access road to a nearby quarry. |
