Summary edit
DescriptionEpworth Post Office - The Letter Box - geograph.org.uk - 291645.jpg |
English: Wall-mounted post box, Epworth Post Office, Lincolnshire. This is a "Ludlow" box, named after the Birmingham manufacturer James Ludlow, made for use at sub-post offices between 1885 and 1965. They are made from wood with a steel front, and until early in Elizabeth II's reign the front was distinguished with a white and enamel plate with black lettering. They are apparently more prone to rot than cast iron boxes. |
